I used beech for this armoire, I love just about all woods and I'm not fussy or snooty about exploring different possibilities.
The sides are veneer core plywood with 2" solid edging, so I could make a plywood unit with an interesting corner, not boring old square. The customers were looking for accents like the streaks in the door panels, which I spotted climbing around my favourite huge industrial lumberyard, dodging forklifts and pestering the staff.
